PRESS RELEASE - Gary Player to be special guest at Golf Foundation Dinner

Legendary Grand Slam golfer, Gary Player will be special guest at a charity fundraising dinner and auction to be held by the Golf Foundation in Dundee on Monday 16^th of July to celebrate The Open returning to neighbouring Carnoustie.

Dundee's stylish Apex Quay Hotel and Spa is the setting for the drinks reception and dinner which will both take an Indian theme in recognition of Tayside's historic cultural and trading links with the sub-continent.

Veteran BBC TV sports presenter Rob Bonnet will host the proceedings and highlight of the action packed evening will be a special auction of "must have" items.

The dinner, scheduled specially to kick off Open Week, will be attended by the golf industry, media, corporate groups, travel trade professionals and individual supporters. Anne Harper of organisers, specialist PR and events company the Trinity Partnership, said: "we are delighted to be working with the Golf Foundation on this project. It is going to be a superb event and we all aim to raise thousands of pounds towards the Golf Foundation's terrific work."

Mr Player will be presented with the inaugural Spirit of Golf Award by the Golf Foundation in recognition of his achievements and his support of the development of junior golf.

Gary Player has won 163 professional golf tournaments worldwide, including nine major championships on each the Regular PGA Tour and Champions Tour. He became the third man to capture golf''s coveted Grand Slam in 1965 (Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods have since joined this elite group). Off the course, Player has raised over $20 million for underprivileged children's education globally through the efforts of The Player Foundation; he has designed over 250 golf courses worldwide; has bred over 1500 winning racehorses on the Gary Player Stud Farm in South Africa; and in 1995 he received an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from St. Andrews University.

The Golf Foundation is a charity devoted to the sporting and social development of young people through golf and in particular is known for its work in bringing the game to inner city youngsters who wouldn't normally have access to the game.
